Just like the orphaned farmboy in Belgariad, to live a lonely life like Drizzt, always caught between two worlds like Tanis Half-Elven. By the end of it he feels he would give anything to have his life back the way it was (or almost: without the fangs of Dang would be nice). Tolkien started with a map, so I took a cue from him, and thats how I startedwith sketching the map of the world of Aerwiar, and then filling in the towns and the rivers and so on. Some stories tend toand theres a place for thisthey tend to write about heroes, and theres this nobility, these aspirational characters, and I dont think thats a terrible thing to make characters that kids who read them want to be like.
